I'm chomping at the bit, to experience this new OS.

However, I don't want to jump the gun, if it's not ready for one's primary device.

What would you do? Wait, or go for it?

Since you can still downgrade to 18.6.2, it may be worth doing now. Then you can test a near final build, decide if it is for you, and go back before that is no longer an option. Just make sure you do a backup.

iPhone 16 pro max been on beta 9 since it came out which is when I joined the betas .
Overhaul solid , only problems are slight issues with the UI and some third party issues with apps but that’s only to they haven’t been updated to work with the new iOS which won’t happen till it’s public .
As it’s so close to final release I would advise to hold off , iOS 18 will still be signed for a bit longer and iOS 18.7 is rumoured to be coming soon so if iOS 26 ain’t working for you it’s easy enough to go back as long as you have a archived iOS 18 backup .
Battery life also is one thing that’s not too bad but iOS 18 was better , probably because iOS 26 has all this liquid glass .

IF, by IF, I decide tomorrow to get a 17PM to replace my 13PM, then I might hump on the beta. If tomorrow's answer will be no, then I'll wait for ios26 release.
iPadOS public beta has been stable for me so id expect the iOS PB to be similar, just I could live without my iPad for a few day, not so with my iPhone

Not digressing, but what would make you upgrade to the 17PM?

Personally, I’m just not feeling it this year.

They will have to produce something absolutely spectacular to make me upgrade my 16PM.

Thanks for your input 👍🏼.

The true optical 5/8x zoom is the one feature that will do it for me. Remember I'm coming from 13PM...
My13PM is doing fine, got it replaced under AC+ like 18 months or so ago, battery health is at 89% I believe, I hardly ever drop under 50% at end of day, it gets charged to 100 over night, I get great reception in my area, download speeds up to 650Mbps...
I would love a better camera, the 5x on the 16PM is great but not a selling feature for me...

My 16PM battery is still at 100%.

I don’t know what will sell the new phone for me.

The “feature” where you can simultaneously film from front & rear cameras intrigues me. Especially as I’m starting a documentary film making course in December.

I’m not going to bother getting ready to upgrade, until I watch the reveal tomorrow.

I’m definitely not as keen as I usually am, for some reason?

By the way, my watch has only just gone down to 99%!

PS: Have got my old 2018 iPP out, and am installing the iPadOS 26 beta.

Wish me luck 😉.

Wishing you well …

I totally get your hesitation to upgrade from your 16PM and I am also happy that your are hesitating, pushing back on the fomo. If I had a 16PM id not bother either.

And good move on the iPP, I'm sure you'll be fine with the iPad beta, shouldn't have any issues with the install, still crossing finger for you ;)

Anger, fear, aggression and installing betas.
The Dark Side are they.
🤭🤪

The RC comes probably after the event tomorrow. So I would either wait and do it then or potentially wait till a week from today. Most likely the public release is coming Monday the 15th.
Same thing I was going to say. I usually put the RC on my primary.

Hmm, it’s nothing special.

Definitely FOMO, for sure!

One thing it has made me certain of, is that I could never buy an 11” iPad again 😀.

it certainly is not earth shattering but some nice new features. Check out the article(s) linked at the front page, there are so many new features I have to read up on them occasionally ...

I do public betas only on devices that I can do without for some time, never on those that I need/want to use daily. There are hater esp of the 26 look and feel out there, in my mind for one it isn't as bad as a lot of people say, and secondly, sooner or later I will upgrade one device or the other and then I do not have a choice of OS anymore ...

At least wait till tomorrow. The RC will almost definitely be released within 30 minutes after the event ends. You then can either enroll your device to the Beta program and download it, or manually download the IPSW file of the RC from Apple Developer portal and flash it onto your device
