Is it worth upgrading 4 to a 4s because of this?

Yes, the 4S offers 7xs the graphics performance over the 4 and 2x the processing speed. The only graphics intensive game I play on my 4S is Real Racing 2 and it runs superbly.
However, the iPhone 5 offers even greater performance with better battery life. I would consider that as an option if possible.

Oh you didn't explicitly state you need an unlocked version, so I didn't know. I heard some people in the states saying it's possible to get one, but I'm not very sure though.
You may be able to talk to your carrier about buying an unlocked iPhone 5 if you are in the US.
