It it worth it for me to get firewire 400/800 enclosures for my external hard drives (they are in usb 2.0 enclosures now) when thunderbolt tech is coming out? would I see an improvement in speed efficiency of firewire 800 over the usb 2.0?

My macbook pro has a firewire 800 port on it, but no thunderbolt port, & I thought I may utilize the port.

I use the hard drives for alot of things; I have one for music, the other is for photos, they are both sata 1TB at 7200rpm.

well FW800 has about twice the data throughput speed of USB2 so yes it would be faster in a technical sense, but, you still need to wait for the hard discs to spin up if they havent been used.

if you're just storing photos and music on the external drives its most likely you aren't moving data around alot on a regular basis though to be honest its probably not worth the expense
