I have a Mac mini that I'm using as a media center. I have all my videos housed on an external USB drive that's hardwired into the back of the mac mini.

When I originally tested the system, I had front row accessing my Movies folder where my videos were housed (with an alias folder to my USB drive). I didn't notice any lag when I had things set up this way.

Now, I have imported all the videos into iTunes without letting iTunes reorganize anything. When I access the TV Shows or Movies from the Front Row main menu there's a significant lag before the videos pop up and then the selector square seems to stall a bit when you first start scrolling through the videos.

I was just curious, is this because the videos are now going through iTunes instead of Front Row accessing them directly through the folders on my hard drive?

My mac mini is a G4 1.42Ghz 1Gb RAM running Leopard 10.5.3
