I hear different stories on this one. Someone on other sites say it depends on your device... I have a 3GS and a iphone 4 with 4.02. Is it then a teethered or unteethered Jailbreak?? As I hate having to run to a PC to do this all the time when the battery goes out. Thanks

My iphone 3 .12 just went into recovery mode... should I just jb it again with blackra1n and then update to 4.1 and then jb it with limera1n? As I am still on 3.12 with the older iPhone 3GS. Suggestions ...Advise? As I was too lazy to update to 4.1 since I know I have to reinstall everything again which is a hassle///

Update to 4.1, jailbreak with limera1n, get off your lazy a** and re-install your apps

If I were you and you can pwn your phone, I would use do so and then use PwnageTool to create a custom firmware.
