Mac Rumors People-
I was just wondering if LimeWire is legal? I have using the application for quite some time. Some of my friends have been buying music illegally and got sued.:( At the time being I would like to know if I have been buying music illegally!
Thanks in advance :D

If you've been paying for music downloads, it's probably ok. However, Limewire is a file sharing application in which you don't have to pay for downloads. It's not legal to have music you haven't paid for.

btw does your user name pertain to the famous little bar on the beach in Alabama?

How did you BUY music using limewire???

the application is not ilegal what you do with it can be, your not "buying" songs, your downloading them, it's not legal but it's something you need to decide for yourself weather your comfortable with doing

Limewire application = legal
p2p file sharing = legal
p2p file sharing of copyrighted material = illegal
Using Limewire to download said material = illegal
Limewire Pro = legal
Using Limewire Pro to download copyrighted material = illegal.

The basic rule of thumb is if you would normally pay for what you are downloading for free then it's illegal.

Using Limewire to download music is for the vast majority illegal, paying for Lime wire Pro doesn't change that.

exactly. You don't know how many people have told me "if you pay for limewire it's legal." I get it (occasionally) in real conversations, but in IM and MR and things like that, I see that more.
