Is MacOS X 10.2 any good on a PG G4 550?

I have a Powerbook G4 550 and want to know if Mac OS X 10.2 will speed up things on my powerbook much. The things I need speeding up the most are:

-iTunes
-Quicktime (mainly Divx which play very slow)
-General browsing/using computer

I'm not sure of the video card in a PB 550, if it is one that supports QE in 10.2 then I would say that upgrading would defiantly speed things up for you.

It is very likly that it will do exactly what you dedsire, the biggest performance boost i noticed on my 450 tower was in quartz extream. What type of graphics card do you have in your baby? if it's supported then yes, yes you will see a significant performance boost. Hope this helped, if you are hung up on the cost of 10.2 then try to find a friend that works in the eduction market and take advantige of thier discount

os 10.1.5 (that's no qe mind you) is faster on a b&w powermac g4 667 than 10.2.2 on my 500mhz imac g3 (no qe card). everything from app launches to the interface is faster. osx is much smoother on a g4, regardless of whether or not you have qe (although it does help out a lot). i don't know how much of a difference 10.2 will make, but it's supposed to take even more advantage of altivec than 10.1.

Thanks for your help, my PowerBook G4 has a video card that supports QE (Radeon Mobility 16MB). It is just I have heard some people complaining about the speed of 10.2 on some Macs. I will get it for christmas with a student discount then (I am at University).

Nothing is good on a PB 550! Just kidding. I had that one and liked it alot, for awhile. It got alot of "bad press" when certain benchmarks showed the 400 and 500 as being much faster but whatever. I would definitley recommend getting Jag ASAP. It was the only thing that made my 550 feel less like a slug. It actually helped alot. Well worth it.
