Is Microsoft Silverlight safe to install?

Hi,
I am a new user of the macbook pro, I was just wondering is it safe to install Siverlight?? Google chrome keeps saying "this file may harm your computer", but someone told me to use another browser like Safari to install microsoft...

So I am quite lost, is it safe to install it or not?

It's safe. I had to install it to use Netflix.

Silverlight is Microsoft's web extension, like Flash or HTML5. It's completely safe. You can learn more about it here.

Google chrome will give you that warning with most if not all files you download.

I just uninstalled it as my mac was getting hot and too much battery usage watching netflix.

The streaming media will cause a heavy load on your Mac. I was watching a football game with use of the Silverlight extension and it got up to 82 degrees Celsius. Even with the fans ramped up to the max, I got to around 60 degrees Celsius which is still too warm for my liking.
