I've been having huge problems with graphical anomalies on my screen wall-to-wall tiny colored pixellated squares, large sections of the screen blinking on and off, vertical, horizontal & diagonal lines and streaks, freezing up and crashing so often I can't get any work done. I took it into the Apple store for some work just before the 3-year care plan expired but the problems are all back in greater abundance.
My research points to the GPU, and the fact that Apple had a replacement plan for the GPU in many of the 2011 iMacs tells me I'm on the right track. Mine isn't included in the serial number range of eligibility, so I'm on my own. I've also read that some of the iMacs from that year have the GPU fixed to the logic board, while some are cable connected. So...
Is there a way, by serial number, I can tell if my GPU is replaceable or fixed to the logic board?
Many thanks.
