is my airport router failing?

The last couple of days in the evenings I noticed very slow download speeds. Resetting the ISP's DSL modem, there is no change. Resetting the Airport Wireless router, the speeds immediately go back to where they should be.

Is it time to get a new router? Is there any more sophisticated way of testing this?

Try plugging the DSL Modem directly into the computer when the speeds go slower. Then test again. This will say if there is a problem with the AirPort or not. If it is indeed the AirPort try a factory reset.
