Hello everyone

So I've been using my AW3 for workouts ever since November 2017. During each workout I ask Siri to set timer for: 30, 35 or 40 seconds. Sometimes 2 or 3 minutes. At first it has worked really great. Siri was responsive and I was very happy with it.

However ever since watchOS 4.2 Siri has become a nightmare for me. She rarely responds to Hey Siri - usually only after 4 or 5 tries. She often mistakes 30 seconds for 40 seconds and 3 minutes for "free" minutes. I know I have slavic accent but THREE and FOUR are hard to mistake. When speaking about TIME and MINUTES, "FREE" should easily be recognized as "THREE".

I have tried recalibrating Hey Siri but it didn't help. Funny thing is, my iPhone SE that lies 2-3 meters from me during workouts very often picks up my "Hey Siri" requests - much better than my Apple Watch that I started speaking to from 5 centimeters. My iPhone also understands commands a TON better.

I also don't understand how is it possible for both devices to pick up same "Hey Siri" followed by command and execute it twice. For example - my Apple Watch ignores me. After 4 attempts I speak really loud to it and my phone picks it up. Apple Watch suddenly picks it up too. They both start timers - TWICE! Or create reminder - TWICE! Is it really the best Apple could do?

Anyway - do you think it might be broken microphone? Maybe watchOS 4.2 release was coincidental?

  • Try Siri by pressing the Digital Crown and see if still issues.
  • Try answering a call from a friend to test mic quality.
  • Try Message dictation and see it it works and is accurate.
