Is My External 1TB Time Machine Drive Corrupted

I bought this Hard Drive just after the Japanese Tsunami (perhaps it got wet???). Anyway. It has never performed flawlessly. I have reformatted it for the fourth time because, recently, no matter what the date of the first back-up, it shows the date of January 5, 2013. Do I need to look at getting a new drive??? Thanks in advance for your reply.

Where exactly are you seeing this date? In System Preferences > Time Machine?
