I was encoding some video today on my Santa Rosa MBP and some odd rattling noises came from the right side were my right fan would be. With SMC Fan Control I maxed out both fans to 6000 RPM. While the left fan maintain 6000 RPM the right fan would fluctuate between 4800 and 5300 RPM. It would not go any higher. Also it seems when I move the computer around I can hear the right fan fluctuating...very odd. I did a SMC reset but no dice.
Could this be the sign of a dying fan? And if I replace the right one, is the left one soon to follow?
