In the past month, after booting up my MAC, I go though the normal process of clicking on my profile and logging in. A few times now (twice today) it boots up, shows FINDER, and all the other applications in the doc are giant '?'. It then says it can not find my profile. After shutting down and restarting, it seems to be fine.
Here is when it started:
I was trying to use an external display and it was not working because I was not aware of the display driver issue where you need to restart your maching without the display plugged in ... anyway ... I read somewhere you can boot in safemode to change the refresh rate which is what i thought the original issue was with the remote display. When I thought I was booting in safe mode, I saw the "?"s. This was about 10 days ago. I never saw this prior to this.
Since my attempt to safe mode, it has happed 3-4 times. I am worried that something is corrupted. I guess it is a good time to use time machine for a backup before it really dies. Should I make an appointment to the genius bar? I am worried that if I do, and it does not happen, they won't really have anything to say.
HELP!
Thanks!
