Is my Harddrive dieing in my Mac?

I've never had a harddrive die on me yet, so I don't know the indicators of it.
This is with my Powerbook G4 15' OS 10.5.2

Well when im running some processes, I hear a small tingling noise inside the mac, i didn't know what it was but it wouldn't stop when i was watching movies. Then after a while the system will lock up (at this point the laptop is pretty hot).
But if i just leave it on doing nothing, no crash will happen. And not much of the noise either.

So i was wondering if this was telling me that my harddrive was going to die. I don't want to blow 100$ for nothing.

Well assuming you keep a good backup it shouldn't matter anyway.

Its difficult to tell wether you have a failing hard drive without being next to your machine. Read this thread:

You might check out DFT (drive fitness test) here:

I've used it many times. Download the image, burn to a CD, restart and run the test.
