I'm using the smallest size (the face scan always gives me the smallest size), which I think is correct since it still fits loose and has some glare even after tightening the straps. I've tried both band types, but the actual issue is the eye pieces pressing against my nose which causes some fatigue after just a few minutes (it straight up hurts to use with the single band). Is there a way to get them to readjust?

or is my head just straight up too small for this thing

What do you mean by glare? It's normal to see a little bit of light leak from the outside world by the nose area, but it might be able to be improved by going a size down on the light seal in-store - if you're on the smallest size maybe try going up one size for comfort. If you're talking about glare when watching movies/bright and contrasty content, that's an unfortunate phenomenon caused by the pancake lens design inside the headset and is unavoidable with today's tech.

As for the comfort issue, there's always a chance your face shape and IPD combination results in the lenses needing to be tight enough together where it feels like it's pressing your nose. You can actually manually widen the IPD in Settings/Eyes & Hands, I believe the setting is all the way at the bottom called Realign Displays. It'll take you to that original black screen and ask you to hold the Digital Crown, but if you read the instructions onscreen you can also manually widen them using the other button and double press the crown when you're done. Don't widen them too much though as using the wrong IPD may be nauseating if it's too far off. Worth a shot to see if it helps your fit.

Also, I had good luck with the dual loop strap by loosing the top strap a little and rotating the whole setup back (so the lower strap goes even lower and the AVP rotates back a little also), and then lightning the bottom strap. Seems to help reduce the amount that the lower part of the headset is touching your face/nose.
