I'm trying to factory reset this speaker ready to sell because, honestly, I absolutely hate it. If I have to keep it any longer I'm worried I might smash it. I'm a lifelong fan of Apple products, so that's quite an achievement.

As a final insult to me, it refuses even to factory reset. It doesn't respond to my Home app at all. I tried connecting it to my MacBook which worked fine, but when I click "Restore HomePod" it says...

The HomePod software update server could not be contacted. An unknown error occurred (-39).

Is this thing just totally broken? I'm worried that if I sell it online someone might (justifiably) come back and tell me it's faulty.

Have you tried to do it manually?

agree, never had such a terrible thing to set up and then it stopped working, moving location (wifi network) and there is no way to reset it, not by the home app (not showing up) not with my Mac in finder restore (-39) error, wished I never got it

yup, I'm getting that error too. Did you find a way to solve it?
