I got my Ipod for 2 days now, and I have the feeling the battery with WLAN on and display set to 50% brightness only lasts like ~5 hours, if I use it here and there for videos and music.

Hmm, that doesn't seem normal. I ran the "Geekbench 3 battery test" and ran it to wear down the battery quickly to 0 after my first cycle. It lasted 2:06 on screen; however, I disabled "dim screen." The highest result is 2:30 for the Geekbench test. I probably would've hit that mark if I had the dim screen enabled. Will report back at a later time.

So far on my latest charge, I played music for almost 5 hours in total and had a standby time of 15 hours with 96% left.

I've noticed the same thing with mine. It'll last a whole day if I'm just listening to music or podcasts with the screen off, but the moment I actually start using the screen it drains like crazy, usually not lasting more than a few hours.

(I've had mine since they came out, so I'm thinking the battery life is just suckish)

Yes, the battery life seems to be rather disappointing. Only had mine through a couple of "normal" charge cycles after all the early-on activity with downloading apps, etc. Roughly 4 hours with screen brightness at 30%. I was hoping for a lot more than that.

Yeah I don't think your is defective. The device is small and light and therefore does not have a large heavy long life battery. 4 to 5 hours of usage seems about average to what I get on mine, less with continuous movie playing using the external speaker with device on full brightness. Believe it or not I now have two. That way one is always charged, when one runs out of charge I just switch....

Battery life is disappointing here too, iPT6 Gold 128gb. My best results are when I disable wifi, leave screen at 30%, Bluetooth only when needed, minimal screen interaction-gets me 6 or 7 hours. I'm running stock firmware 8.4, jailbroken. With root access, I've disabled various launch daemons that run in the background, seems to cut some drainage, not much.

This is mine after a full charge cycle. Not as bad but my usage is very light, mostly audio with the screen off, so it really should be better.

I think there is another thread on battery life on here somewhere. I replied to that. My new iPT6 has worse battery life than my iPT5. If you double push the home button it will show you all the apps running. I do that frequently and quit all the apps by swiping up. I think I turned off notifications too. That has helped a lot. Still I get caught. It sometimes drains a lot over night. Luckily, it seems to recharge quite a bit more quickly than the old iPT5.

Hmmm....
I've had one since the first day they came out. Gold, 128gb, and loaded it up with games, music, etc. mine is running fine. I use it all the time, with no battery issues. I run it down about every 10 days or so, and i find it charges fairly fast. I find it will last me if I just play straight music more than all day long. The battery is good for about three hours maybe four if I play a game outside of that I have had no issues at all. Maybe i got lucky.

I guess web browsers just eat the battery like cheerios. Since that's all I do on it, my battery never lasts for more than 5 usage hours.

the iPod touch as a very weak battery it only has a 1080mah battery in it.i only got 3 hours of music use out of it.

Sadly ALL Li ion batteries will deteriorate with the number of charge cycles. Expect a device after 100, 200, 300 etc charge/discharge cycles to hold less and less charge with a corresponding impact on usage.

That is the hidden problem with the IPT6... battery performance is going to get worse over time - already weak... but this is not yet the full extent of the problem.

Apple need to put some engineers on optimising the battery use ... to counter this degradation in battery performance - which is pretty much baked in to the technology.

YMMV.
