Hello,

For a week or so I have been having issues with my late 2010 13" Macbook Pro (2.4 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo).

Since I have taken a semester off school, I haven't had much need to transport my Macbook Pro (maybe once a week if that) off my desk, so it has remained plugged in to my 25" Dell external monitor via Apple's MiniDisplayPort to DVI, and then a DVI cable to the monitor. I almost use it as a desktop if you will, for the time being.

For a week, I have been having a hard time getting my Macbook Pro to output to this monitor, it will recognize it and even in the display preferences I can change the resolution/etc when using both my MBP and Dell monitor (2 screen mode). When I flip down the screen to use it in clamshell mode, it is all grainy / pixelated throughout the whole screen ( I can barely make out the top status bar, but everything below that is literally black/white pixels). I'm assuming this is due to a bad signal from the MBP?

I have tried using both DVI ports on my Monitor, as well as an HDMI port (DVI-HDMI cable), and using another Mini displayport to DVI adapter. Same thing unfortunately.

The research I have done shows that the Mini DisplayPort connection is on the Logic Board, if that goes bad, that is ONE expensive repair!! I'm hoping there's something else I can do, my machine is out of warranty. A few months ago my trackpad went out and stopped working completely for no reason, Apple repaired it but i'm hoping I don't have a bad computer where parts will just stop working! (I get that parts go bad but my machine is in perfect condition and not even 2 years old!).

Has anyone else had a similar experience? I'm going to go to Apple tomorrow I believe and have them check it out, I don't think they'll be nice and fix it out of warranty though, something as big as the logic board. Have they for anyone else?

I'd appreciate any input, thank you.
