Is my MacBook Pro dead? If I plug in my phone, it'll charge and the caps lock key lights up when pressed, but the screen is black and no amount of pressing the power button does anything - I don't even hear the chime.

What could be the problem?

From previous posts, looks like OP has a 2013 MBPro.
First, try an SMC reset - https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295
When you have done that SMC reset, and you are at the last step when you can press the power button, try an NVRAM reset, too:
Press and release the power button, then immediately press and hold Option-Command-p-r.
Keep holding those keys. You should hear a boot chime. Keep holding the same 4 keys until you hear the boot chime 2 more times, then release the keys to let it try to boot normally.
If the screen remains black, shine a light into the screen, from various angles, just to try to see menus, or icons, or anything on the screen, even if it's very dim.

If you need a more precise identification, you can enter your serial number (it is on the bottom of your case) on one of the sites that offers that information, such as this one.

Thanks for this. None of this has worked and there's no visible text or anything on the screen.

I haven't heard the chime at any point today whilst trying to get it to work. It's just weird that my phone will charge from the Mac's USBs and the Caps Lock key lights up.

Chabig is right. Nothing strange about your USB port charging your phone, the battery laptop battery is supposed to do that. You problem is the laptop will not boot up. Sounds like maybe a trip to Apple.

It works! It's suddenly woken up like nothing was wrong.

No idea what the problem was...

I've seen this happen a couple of times. In addition to the advice given above, sometimes pressing and holding the power button for a 10-count will force a power-off. Let it sit for a few seconds, then restart from the power button.

But glad it's all set for you.
