I selected the Sprint version on Apple's website (stupid but it was early morning, I should have just ordered sim free) but my understanding
is that I will get an unlocked phone with a Sprint SIM card.
Called two Apple reps over the weekend and they are saying it will be locked to Sprint.
I just can't see how. I didn't give any account information. I paid in full to Apple using my Apple card and right below the Sprint/ATT SIM free does it says:
"all phones are unlocked except if you ordered with AT&T installment plan"

Am I getting an unlocked phone or did I make a huge mistake by selecting Sprint instead of SIM free?

You did not make a mistake. By selecting Sprint instead of SIM-free, you merely told Apple that you'd like for there to be a Sprint SIM card in your otherwise unlocked iPhone when it ships to you.

Phew! Thanks

Kind of disappointed with Apple support, two reps told me it is locked. In the past they used to have extremely knowledgeable persons working there...

It's confusing enough with the US carriers with their unlocked policies, so I'm guessing Apple just told their reps to just steer people who are looking for unlocked phones to go with the SIM free option.

Hi,
Did you get your phone? Is it unlocked immediately?
Thanks,
Sinisa

I got it and it comes with a Sprint SIM inside. But it is unlocked I checked with a Tracfone SIM so it is as stated on the web page.
