Is my Public folder safe from hacking

I've not been able to get an external HD to show up on a networked desktop so i made an alias to it and placed it in the "Public" folder.

My question is, is it safe from hacking over the internet. I've got the firewall on and filesharing also on.

Nothing is safe on the internet. However, you'll be okay. Just don't keep any military documents in there. 🙂
