Today I noticed that Carbon Copy Cloner was advising of read/write errors on my two Sandisk microSD cards. After some elimination, I've determined that it must be the slot itself causing these errors. Here's a screenshot of what Carbon Copy Cloner's Disk Center reports for each SD card I insert:
I tried puffing some compressed air in the slot with no improvement. The results are the same for all three microSD cards I've tried (yes, I've confirmed it's not the adapter that's to blame). The cards themselves seem to operate fine once in the slot. The only indication of a problem is Carbon Copy Cloner's warning.
Is fixing the SD card slot potentially non-trivial if it is dead? MacBook Pro 15'' Early-2011.
