I have been always wondering, are New iPads, iPods, iPhones, even MacBooks
in sleep mode or simply turned off

because if it is in sleep mode, stocked unsold products will eventually run out of battery (even though they sell fast!)

Also if it is turned off for quiet a while apparently it will decrease the battery life (which I personally experienced with iPod touch turned off for like 2month and battery life had became terrible)

I put my bet on sleep which it should be but how????

Mine was turned off and had to be powered on.

New iOS devices on store shelves are turned off. That's why Apple suggests that you charge fully before first use.

In practice, it's not a big deal. The devices have a partial battery load when they leave the factory and Apple controls supply well enough where most people will never pick up a boxed device that's more than a couple months old.
