I will be ordering Apple Watch Series 7 this Friday.

On the plus side, the Nike Edition cost the same as aluminum and includes 5 exclusive Nike watch faces: (1) new Nike Bounce, (2) Nike Hybrid, (3) Nike Analog, (4) Nike Digital, and (5) Nike Compact.

As far as I can tell, preinstalled Nike Run Club app is identical to the free app available on the App Store.

On the minus side, the Nike Edition is only available with Starlight and Midnight. And new fabric-based Sport Loop bands have ugly (IMO) Nike branding.

tl/dr; Are Nike watch faces worth giving up wider color and band selection?

Yes. I always order the Nike edition for the bands and exclusive watch faces. I’ll be ordering the s7 Nike edition on Friday and selling my s4 Nike edition.
My setup is/will be gold SS S6 for work, s7 Nike edition for play.

I always order Nike, but I'm tempted for steel this time. Would steel work for sports?

In my opinion, the Nike watch is worth it if you like the bands. If not, get the regular version. I’ve had both and they function almost identically (the only difference I can remember from the Nike one is they when you ask Siri to start a run, it defaults to the Nike run club app, rather the. The Apple workouts app. Aside from that , the functionality is the same.

I wouldn’t make a decision personally based on the watch faces. I like some of e Nike I es and have used them on my Nike watch but don’t miss them on my Apple branded watch.

SS with the sapphire screen is more durable than the Nike/Aluminum models so I’d venture to say it’s more suitable for sports. It’s obviously heavier but if 11g makes that much of a difference to you, then I’d question your ability as an athlete lol. Ti model is probably the best all around. Light and durable.

Why give up wider band selection? I have a Nike S6 and wear it also with non-Nike bands and non-Nike faces. Unless you want more colorful watches, you got more bang for the buck with a Nike.

I never understood what's different with the Hermes and Nike watches. The hardware is completly the same? Not even a design difference? It's only some exclusive watch faces (ie. software) and it comes with bands which could also be bought separately when you buy a "normal" Apple Watch?

At one time the standard IMO watch faces weren’t that good design-wise.

Yep, but the main difference between both is that Hermès comes with a hefty price increase whereas Nike AW cost the same as their normal aluminum counterparts.

Steel works great for running and cycling. So does titanium.

I bought the Nike edition a couple of generations. I liked the Nike app, perforated sports band, and I liked the Nike watch faces.
... but I didn't like how easily the aluminum cases would get dinged up within a couple months and look bad from then on...

Switched to SBSS and never looked back:
  • I was already buying the cellular model so price jump wasn't as bad
  • Turns out I prefer the sports loops vs sport bands when working out
  • I quit using Nike Run Club when they closed their system and dropped their website version; Workout does what I need, and RunGap app exports to other platforms.
  • I got over the Nike watch faces not being there
*IF* you're buying an aluminum watch anyway, and if you like the Nike bands, then there's no reason not to buy the Nike version. ... but don't limit yourself if you'd actually prefer a model that isn't in the Nike space.

That's the difference between Steve and Cook: innovator vs. businessman.

Cook can help company scale, but never can transform, which may end up with "2nd Nokia" for long run....

I had a Nike S4 and now have a ‘standard’ S6. Why did I not go for a Nike S6? Because I had the strap from the S4 and saw no other benefit. You can create the Nike Run Club face if you wish, I never used it.

So I just wanted a different strap.

I really like the Nike Sports strap and would go for it again if it was my first watch.

I only wear Nike sport bands, so if/when I am going to get an Alu watch, it would be the Nike

I had both Nike S3 and S4 because I wanted the extra faces. I didn’t care for NRC. I’ll be upgrading to Nike S7, but I think the new Nike sport loops (with logo, branding) are ugly. So my plan is to order starlight Nike S7 with whatever ugly Nike band at Apple.com, then sell the said Nike band on eBay. I will use the sale proceeds towards purchase of the standard sport loop (pomelo/tan) that I really want.

I really have no idea who approved these tacky Sport Loops.

Nike Sport Loop page shows 2 old Nike bands, Spurce Aura and Pride Edition. Hopefully, I will be able to order Series 7 Nike Edition with Spruce Aura. I find it to be uninspired and boring but not tasteless. Otherwise, I will get black as its branding logo is more subtle than other Sport Loops bands.

You'll find out on the 8th... :)

I'm guessing you may be stuck with the new ugly Nike Sport Loops -- if you check out the available Nike Sport Loops right now it seems none of the older ones are available.

If it were me, today I'd be ordering a leftover Nike Sport Band from BestBuy or Target or Walmart before they're all sold out, then order the watch with a sport band -- which you could keep or sell as you preferred.

Nice tip. I am personally fine with buying one of many regular Sport Loop bands. How easy was it for you to sell the bands?

I wish Apple would sell the watch without any bands for a bit less (even $20 less would be fine by me).

I've not personally sold any watch bands - sold my S2 Nike with its band, traded my S3 Nike and kept the sport band, didn't buy any more Nike models but have picked up a couple BB or Walmart openbox Nike sport loops because I like the retroreflective threads adding a little extra visibility outdoors after dark.

Anyway - MR has a marketplace, or do any of the usual stuff like ebay or mercari or FB marketplace or whatever.

For me I get the Nike one for the sport band since a good part of the year at work my hand and arm can get wet and it all drys out better/faster under the band then say the regular loop.
