I'm curious because I'm looking to purchase a used MBP from a seller who has upgraded to Mountain Lion. So, let's say I wanted to do a clean install in the future. Would I have to buy a copy of ML using my own Apple ID first?

Any other issues when taking ownership of a previously used MBP?

Yes.

And... if you are not logged in with your appleID on a mac which has access to the downloaded installer, you can't run it (unless you burn to DVD and boot from it or network boot, etc).

the OS will continue to work once installed if you aren't logged in with your apple ID, but you need to be logged in with it to run the installer

Thanks guys.

Guess I might as well grab my own copy and do a clean install.
