Hi, a local gym provides PERdiem for people to clean their yoga mats, dumbbells, etc. Is it effective in killing virus and bacteria? Is Lysol better? As it does not have a strict no street shoes policy and there are dog **** on the streets nearby, the floor is very dirty.

I think they would both be effective, but antibacterial doesn’t take place of cleaning. If the yoga mat you’re using has a brown streak down it then no amount of Lysol wipes is going to help. My advice for something like this is your behavior is going to make more difference than anything. You can touch almost anything on your hand and your body will protect you. If you have the bad habit of wiping your mouth or eyes with your hand, then it gets past your body’s protective barrier.

What is brown streak?

Some people just remove their shoes or change shoes when entering the room. Occasionally there are a few who tells others to do it or give them looks. This only works if everyone does that. In North America, there is no way to police it. Over a hundred of people use that room each day. As long as one person wears street shoes in, the floor is contaminated already. Taking shoes off just make our socks or feet dirty. I am sure that are dog **** particles on the floor.

Just wash your hands before you touch your face and you’ll be fine. The human body is quite good at defending itself.

I really wouldn’t worry about it. No worse than using the handrail in a public building or using a communal anything else. Just don’t lick the floor and you’ll be fine.

Serious question, not trolling: wouldn’t it be better to ask the gym owner or the manufacturer of the cleaning product than strangers on a free message board for Apple fans?
Asked the manufacturer already but no reply.

If you are concerned about cleanliness in the gym, can you talk to management at the gym? Could be the gym owner, but someone knows what is needed to clean the gym. That's who you need to talk to. The product manufacturer will not be helpful (unless YOU are taking control of daily cleaning in the gym -- nice to know if the product you use is known to be effective
