There seems to be a lot of discussion regarding the inability of the "iTV" to play anything other than what can be played through iTunes. i.e. No divx/avi support and for UK users (like me) no iTunes tv shows to purchase, but doesn't Perian fulfill this need?

I download US tv shows, have a bunch of ripped movies all in avi/divx format and through this simple plug-in I'm able to watch them all using front row on my iMac. Surely then this is the solution that saves having to rely on Apple to supply iTunes content or having to re-encode your existing files. Maybe I'm missing something but it seems like the solution to me.

What do you think?

I think the answer to iTV is hacked firmware.

Some fanboy will make Linux run on that Intel processor and 40GB hard drive the iTV has and we will be cookin' with improved file format support.
