Is predictive text working as intended?

I’m not sure if this happened also in previous iOS / iPadOS versions , but predictive text seem to be not always worked as expected on my iPhone and iPad. I mean , if you start typing , sometimes it offers you to complete the word with light grey letters. Sometimes it offers also a couple words to complete the sentence , and most of the times they are relevant (especially if I’m using English). usually you are supposed to just press space bar for the words to be selected but sometimes it just … doesn’t work 🤷🏻‍♂️
Instead of actually select the suggested letters / words, it put a space. It is weird because 8 times out of 10 it works, but sometimes it doesn’t . I’ve noticed this on both ipad (especially on iPad with the keyboard attached ) but also on my iPhone
Is something have you experienced ?

The moment the light gray suggestion appears, I just press space bar
