My Mac is restricted to macOS Monterey, so Safari 17.6 was the last version Apple would give to this OS. I feel very reluctant to move from Safari. One year later, is it still safe to use or should I consider Chrome and Firefox?

Is OCLP a good option so that I can get up-to-date XProtect and Safari 18.4, or is staying on Monterey and getting a still-updated browser safer?

I'm a bit worried about Orion since its market share is low. I'd like evidence that there are no security back-doors in it, as I made a mistake getting Zen earlier, and found there was quite a big hole in its security department.

Does that mean it's worse than being on the newest compatible (unsupported) operating system, or just that there are potential tradeoffs?
It all depends on the attacker, how you'll be affected. Generally, a disabled SIP must be regarded as a potentially worse security problem. But an unsupported browser is a security problem as well. Use Firefox or another supported browser.

I just tested csrutil status on the OpenCore EFI and SIP is only partially disabled. Is that still bad? I still have my Macintosh HD boot to go back.

So, SIP protects macOS from malwares, once the SIP is disabled then your Mac may become vulnerable to viruses. Brave browser can be a good option, you should try it.

Safari 17.6 on macOS Monterey is no longer getting security updates, so it’s less safe over time.

The web browser is the main route to get exploited. Using such an old browser is not a good idea.

Just get Firefox or Edge or Chrome or DuckDuckGo or whatever.

Do you think this is a good idea: Stay on Safari until 17.6 loses support to an important website, then move onto Orion? Or should I go straight onto Orion?

Why should any hacker dedicated effort to exploit a browser that is used by an extremely small number of people. The payback is much better for browsers used by millions of people.

Isn't Safari's market share the 3rd highest or something?
