I currently have a brand new series 10 cellular case from Apple under warranty. I’m considering selling it to maximise return and get a series 11. However the only reason I am considering s11 is to get 5g esim in UK. I have never had esim on my watch before but I want to get it for emergencies if my iPhone battery dies or I lose my phone. Occasionally I would also like to go out without a phone.

Will 4g suit my needs or should i upgrade?

Keep in kind (as per other threads) that just because the device is capable of 5G it may not always use 5G even if you are within coverage (it will often revert to 4G for a number of reasons) . To answer your question, cellular is very useful in the circumstances that you describe but whether you have 4G or 5G for your AW isn't really going to make that much difference for most users, particularly as you are based in the UK.

I’ve had cellular (EE) for a few years and do make use of it. I don’t take my phone running and usually don’t take it if going to the pub or to the corner shop. I like knowing I’m contactable and also sometimes stream radio if I don’t have podcasts loaded and don’t fancy music.

I don’t see the use case for 5G in terms of network speed. I think the idea is that it can be a bit more efficient in terms of power and obviously eventually older standards get removed. If you have an S10 then I would just stick with that. I upgraded my S7 to a refurb S10 a couple of weeks ago as I couldn’t see what the price difference between S10 & S11 would give me.

Same as the post above, I do a lot of running and it’s very convenient to still be connected via my Watch particularly if I ever were to have an accident. Also for generally receiving messages and streaming when out and about. I find a phone too bulky to take out running. I’ve got the Ultra 2 but don’t see any need to upgrade to the U3 for 5G.

You mentioned emergencies. If that’s the key reason, then no, no point.

I’d either go to the Ultra 3 and add satellite, or just stick with the S10.
