I just started reading about Slingboxes and am very interested, but the only viable situation I would use it in is when I only have my iphone...so is it safe to say Slingbox capability is on the way?

This NYTimes article from last year indicates that SlingMedia is working on SlingPlayer for the iPhone:

SlingMedia was also rumored to be one of the handful of developers to get a hold of the iPhone SDK before the beta was even released. I too am very hopeful that we'll get a version of SlingPlayer for the iPhone when the App Store launches, but unfortunately at this point all we've got is rumors and speculation.
