Is something wrong with my RAM?

hey there. I don't know much about computers but this has been bothering me.
I downloaded iStat the other day and this is what it tells me about my memory:

Wired:431MB
Active:1.74MB
Inactive:239 MB
Free:1.34GB

I have 4 GBs of ram, this is usually the stats that iStat gives me. Is this normal? sorry if this is a dumb question. i dont know much about computers and I was just wondering.

Looks like the computer is only reading 2GB

Adds up to 3790mb. Then add the 256mb used by the gpu, and you have 4046mb. Looks like 4gb to me.

431 MB + 1.74 MB + 239 MB + 1340 MB = 2011.74 MB

I don't see how that adds up to 4 gigabytes, sorry.

Is active meant to be gigabytes rather than megabytes? (because thats where the disagreement in calculation is lying)

Mac Ram is a bitch to seat in BMB's ,(maybe others) Your machine is only seeing 2 Gb of your 4Gb. I'll bet one set isn't fully seated. Pop them both and re-install. Hold the back of the machine with one hand and PUSH with some force with your thumb

are you sure your active is reading 1.73mb? thats is LOW for active.

I would imagine 1.73gb would make more sense and show the extra 2gb that is missing..
