I know that you can transfer the warranty to a new owner but is it transferable to a new phone? I plan to purchase the iPhone 5s friday and want to buy insurance. However, i will probably be upgrading to the iphone 6 when its released and was wondering if i could transfer the remaining 2 year protection plan to the new phone. If squaretrade is not, is applecare plus?

Not certain, but I believe both Squaretrade and AppleCare+ allow you to cancel and get a refund for the unused portion. Then you can purchase a new warranty. I am not sure how either of them account for use of the warranty during the year when calculating the refund.

I bought the 2 year square trade warranty with my iPhone 5 last year, never filed a claim. This year (about 10 months in total) I logged back on and canceled my plan getting $50.

This was quite a good deal, as I only payed $69 (I had a discount). Peace of mind for the whole 10 months I had the phone, for a total cost of only $19.
