I see it not being THAT much faster than standard HDD. Is it really worth the extra money for a machine to boot up faster? What advantages does it have to be SOO damn expensive?

im holding off due to high price right now but the advantages are obvious. I'll probably upgrade 6 months to a year.

much faster load times
no noise
no moving parts means much higher reliability.

negatives right now is price and smaller drive space.

All I can say is you have to use it to appreciate it. I just took delivery of my 13" MBP with 128GB SSD. The speed is amazing over the standard hard drive. Launching apps is incredibly quick especially those slower loading apps like iMovie. Boot time for me is 19.8 seconds from the press of the power button and best of all, no moving parts and no hard disk sound and no lag from accessing the drive as it gets full. Definitely worth it, I won't go back to a spindle drive again. :)

prices have come down a bit but still expensive, after I installed SSD boot speeds are amazing now I rather shut down than standby so i can watch it boot :) also loading apps is very quick and all is quiet, no humming or clicking like a hard disk, not sure if it helped battery life though as I installed it after I got my Mac.
