Is "stock" warranty valid in other countries?

Hi folks,

I'll get an iBook during my trip to the USA in January, and I wanna know if "stock" warranty is valid in another country (I live in Brazil). In negative case, should I get AppleCare? Is iBook a reliable computer?

AppleCare's price is too high. I could use that money to buy a 100GB hard drive and expand the memory to 1GB.
