I never used a case with my XS because its glossy and not slippery in my hand. I used a case with older phones that were matte aluminum because they seemed to want to fly out of my hand. How is the 12 pro as far as that. I see the edges are glossy but the back is matte finish. I don't like using cases but if its too slick I might have to.. Is the 12 pro slick or pretty grippy without a case?

XS (especially with gold coating) is by far the most grippy iPhone naked. Second favorite for me is 7 jet black or X

12 pro is still OK due to the stainless steel sides but be prepared to be disappointed from a grip perspective. 12 pro is a little bit better grip than 11 pro, but I find the shaped sides a bit uncomfortable to hold.

Aluminum has the grippy back. Pro the grippy sides. Wish I got have both. 😂

Thanks. I have a 12 pro on order. Hoping it doesn’t need cased due to slickness..

I've never used cases for any of my phones, ever. The stainless steel sides since the X combined with the glossy glass back made it very grippy.

When the matte glass back was introduced with the 11 (had the 11 max), I definitely did not rely on the matte finish to hold the phone, but instead gripped the phone tighter via the stainless steel sides.

Keep in mind the edges aren't curved anymore, so I believe the squared off sides of the 12 series will provide even better grip. I haven't been able to see the 12 pros in person yet, but I'm excited to see how the retro design will feel with the max phone. I imagine myself gripping the phone from the sides as well because of the sheer size of the device. The sharp edges should help the phone dig into my hands for a more secure fit :)

Good points. Come to think of it. I used the iPhone 5 without a case without issue with the matte aluminum sides and back with squared edges. The 12 pro should be atleast more grippy than the 5 for sure. The 6 and 7 for me were like holding a stick of butter. Had to put those in a case. Can’t stand cases. Any case I ever used marked up the phone more than not using a case!

Yeah, I often ask my best friend if I can hold his phone (he has the 11 Pro) and it has such a great form factor. I don't imagine myself ever dropping a phone that size. On the other hand, my 11 Pro Max (naked) took a good amount of beatings from accidental falls or slips, but I don't see myself going to a smaller screen. My 11 Pro Max was actually really destroyed before I used 1 of my AC+ warranties for a new device prior to selling.

Here's what it looked like after 1 year of use naked. I'm by no means gentle with my phone. I use it frequently to its full potential and don't baby it. (front screen was replaced 1 time from cracking as well). Ignore the ugly person on the wallpaper.

Lol I don’t know how you do the max sizes. I always preferred smaller phones but was forced to the XS size basically. Now the mini is out and I can’t bring myself to downgrade in screen size. I would love that size for general use/pockets but I’m afraid to down size my screen. Knock on wood I have been lucky with not using a case. Worse drop was my iPhone 4. Flew out of my pocket hopping around on my bike. Slammed off the pavement. No cracks. Just some marks on the stainless band. I used to be more picky about my phones to the point of not even setting them on a hard surface without something under it like a napkin lol. Now I just use them and take care of them but not as picky 😂
