Is the 4S camera really that good?

I've seen tens of comparison photos of the iPhone 4's camera and the iPhone 4S. It appears slightly better but sometimes it's hard to see.
Just remember, people can take a better looking photo with a 4 vs the iPhone 4S by using better composition & lighting (with lighting being a big key factor).
A lot of it has to do with the person taking the picture as well. A lot of people do not know how to take a good picture (myself included). Also, using the Camera+ app helps too from what I hear.
After almost a year, it's still probably the best phone camera on the market, so yeah, it's pretty good.

i think what he meant was:

Its not half as good as the Galaxy S III's camera. And yes I actually have a 4S and GSIII to compare. GSIII seems to take more sharp pictures and have better contrast.
Depends. I own S3 and 4s. The problem with S3 is you may have to take 3-4 pics to get the one u like. Shutter speed is much faster than 4s. But with 4s. U take a picture. 9 out of 10 times that will be only one u need to take.
S3 you Need to be completed focused and even than its hit or miss with blurry pics. .
HTC one X is probably best camera phone on market now. Than 4s. Than S3. Which bodes well for next iphone camera.
I got the 4S specifically for the camera upgrade and I feel like it doesn't take as good pictures as my 4 did. Maybe it's because I got it in January in the middle of a wet, grey winter and the photos weren't in bright light. But even the flash photos haven't impressed me. I'm hoping the next iPhone has more camera improvements.

The 4s camera is good but it isn't a DSLR replacement.
It does particularly poorly (compared to a decent camera) in low light, as the lens simply can't capture as much light.
But for a cell phone camera, it is pretty awesome.

I don't get it. I have a 4 and 4s here, with an S3 and there isn't much of a difference between the 4 and 4s. in some instances the video recording on the 4 has been shown to be better than that of the 4s. But picture quality wise, no there isn't much of a difference at all.
S3 blows both away. I'd be happy to post pictures from all three.

All of this. I have a Sony digital camera that I bought in 2001 with a Carl Zeiss lens and is 3.2MP that blows the iPhones camera away. For everyday picture taking though, the 4S camera is excellent.
