Just upgraded to an Iphone 4s from a 4. I noticed that in direct sunlight the screen of the newer phone is less visible.
May be some productions tolerences causing this ot the devices mounts different screens?

I believe they are identical, not noticed any difference between my 4 and 4S. Not sure if there's a difference between anti-reflective coatings or not. Also, did you buy the phone new or secondhand? Could be the front glass was replaced with an aftermarket one if secondhand, might explain the difference.

Both phones were new

The display on the 4 and 4s are the same(although mounting tabs may be different). There are obviously going to be slight differences in the screen on different phones.
