A friend of mine that is of similar age told me about some heart episodes he has been having the last two weeks. It got me to thinking - do any of you have a real world example of the apple watch helping you when it comes to detecting something you did not know about and if so how much of a game changer for you has it been with your apple watch usage?

I would only use the Health tracking features of the Watch as a guide and if something looks off go for a check up.

I also have a Withings Blood Pressure monitor thing that gives me extra information. That's really high recommended because a lot of people don't know if their blood pressure is high. It's called a silent killer for that reason.

Search this forum, there are multiple threads where people were reporting g of AW detecting afib that they had no clue about.
There are also threads where people are reporting on early illness detection like eg covid (elevated resting heart rate).
The real user stories are here, just need to search

Yep, total gimmick.

No, it's useful. Just go to Google and search for "life saved by Apple Watch" or similar.
A search like that is likely to yield results just about as reliable as searching for "life saved by Ivermectin."

Basically, if you type any point of view into Google as a search, you will get results that validate that point of view.

Yes it can be helpful or as a real good monitor if you already have issues. I have a very slight blockage in an artery that was caught by a CT scan because my doctor wanted to checkup because of a family history. I agreed and he caught the issue. I now on meds and the doctor them recommended that I get an Apple Watch for the ability to monitor my heart rate and ecg so I agreed and got a basic S8

thank you for all the replies! I did a search on here and on google and the one on here was ok but brought me to a few one two posts like mine the search on google showed me what seemed like the same three stories over and over.

I have been in fib since 2012. My AW does detect it ok and it monitors my heart rate very effectively. I have it set so if my HR goes below 40 or above 160 I get an alarm and if I don't respond it calls 911 automatically. As a heart patient that lives alone it does help my piece of mind.

As for the life saving deal, it does happen. My cardiologist has 3 patients that had their alarms set and it went off in the middle of the night and they got to the emergency room faster and in time. SO the alarm deal does work. Is it a guarantee, certainly can't say that but it is certainly helpful.

I was in the ER on Dec 7,2022. I was having a difficult time breathing, first time ever. The doc came in my room, looked at the monitor I was hooked up to and said, Sir, you are in AFIB. I was sent to the hospital and 30 minutes later talking to a cardiologist. He suggested I get an Apple Watch.

Boy, Apple ships fast. It showed I was in AFIB. Two weeks later, I had a Catheter Ablation. The AFIB was gone. It came back 3 weeks later. Guess not uncommon, and I was told that it takes a few months for the heart to heal after the ablation.

My first Apple Watch.

When i got covid last month the blood oxygen dropped to 93-94 and the heart rate went to 110bpm when I was lying in bed (fever at 38.5C)
So AW works and have the ability to warn people about their health
Using AW S6

The Fib was normal, of course covid have nothing to do with our heart
