Is the animation when opening & closing apps on the ipad 2 smoother than the iPhone4?

My ipod touch 2g on some old firmware feels smoother than my iPhone 4 ever since firmware 4.0 I think. Yes I've restored the phone etc lets not go into that but imo ios isn't as smooth as it used to be. Now I know the iPad 2 has the A5 chip so how it is?
