Looking at a new macbook for my wife. I see now there is only one USB-C port on them and apple make a USB-C adapter for hooking up legacy USB devices and providing pass through charging over the USB-C port.

The question I have is do I have to have this dongle at the macbook if I am charging and need to use a USB peripheral device? I just see it is kind of obtrusive if I am say sitting on the bed or sofa and its on my "lap" and I need it plugged in.

Could the adapter be plugged right into the 29Watt USB Charging port and then have the cable run from the adapter to the macbook? I could then plug what ever legacy usb peripheral into the adapter.

Any help appreciated.
