Is the Apple Watch ready to go out of the box?

Picking my first Apple Watch up from John Lewis (UK) when I get back from holidays on Monday. Was planning on going for a swim straight afterwards, what is the setup process? Lots of downloads involving WiFi or can I pop it on my wrist, play with a few settings and dive right in? I presume it’ll have some charge out of the box? Thanks!

You must pair it to your iPhone.

It took about 10-15 minutes for the watch to be ready to use. It then installs any apps but you could start a workout after that 10-15 minute period is up, you don’t need to wait on apps installing.

It’s quicker if you’re in Apple as you can take a seat and set it up, not sure how easy that would be in JL.
