I plan on buying a Mac in Hong Kong or the USA (I prefer their keyboard layout).

If I go to Europe or the UK, for example, how does the warranty system work? I am aware that the European Consumer Rights directive extends the warranty to 2 years (which is different from the typical base 90 days warranty), but as I plan to purchase the Mac outside of the UK/EU, I suspect I'll need to buy AppleCare separately.

If I buy AppleCare in the US or Hong Kong, is it transferrable to the UK/EU?

Thanks.

I knew it used to depend on the product but it's expanding. There's an AppleCare page with all the coverage countries somewhere on the apple site.
