I'm trying to decide between the 2.2 and 2.4 MBPs. The difference for me is only $400 because I'm buying through the ADC store. The only big reason I see to get the 2.4 is the extra 128 of VRAM. The most intensive thing I will be doing is dabbling in Final Cut Express. I'm wondering how much of a difference the video card will make. Also, would the 128MB card in the 2.2 be sufficient enough for me to keep this laptop as my only computer for the next 4-5 years? Thanks for any advice and discussion.

How much is your time worth? If you are using the MBP as a business machine I would get the 2.4. If it is for personal use then the 2.2 is a good price/performance machine.

128 MB VRAM will be fine for FCE. You'll not notice $400 difference if you buy the 256 MB version. As far as the future goes, if you move up to Final Cut Studio, then you will notice a big difference. Motion, in particular, dines on VRAM and it's very hungry!
