Is the iPhone 11 Pro camera shooting 12 megapixels when it’s in the default zoomed in view?

Or is it cropped in? If you zoom out, isn’t that 12 megapixels?

Zoom or not, 12 million pixels are captured by the sensor. Digital zoom just adds more pixels (to get 12 million) by interpolation between its neighboring pixels. Essentially they're fake pixels because they're not capturing information from the lens.
