Is the GM seed upgradable to the official release, or 10.8.1?

Is the process that we reinstall 10.8 retail over the GM seed, or is it updatable to 10.8.1?

Normally the developer seeds can't be upgraded to the final retail copy, no? Is the GM different?
 
The GM is the official 10.8, so there is no need to reinstall it.
