I noticed, as in the 2G version, that only 1 speaker is alotted for ringing volume? Is this correct or are both speakers supposed to be playing ringing volume. Is one alloted for ringing volume and one for microphone? Just thought I'd ask as though Im wondering if my new iphone is defective or not?

Attention to anyone who ever searches for this thread: THERE IS ONE SPEAKER. THERE IS ONE MICROPHONE. THAT IS ALL.

Thank You. ;)

For the sake of playing devil's advocate, there are two speakers...

One on the front above the screen, and one on the bottom.

The phone rings using the bottom speaker, or the headphones if you have them plugged in.

I think the reason for all this threads is because people keep getting missed calls and texts because the sound is so **** so think there is something wrong with there phone. I did the same yesterday :D

If you make your own ringtones you can make them pretty loud. I had to lower the volume on my ringtone because it was so loud on the iphone compared to the other sounds.

If you can't search apple.com or macrumors forum or use enough common sense to know that there is only 1 speaker I suggest you give up your iphone and go buy yourself a nice shiny razr.

That being said my volume is lower than my 2.5g and the "improved" call quality blows. headphones sound tiny and sorta rattle when sounds plays in them... defect?

I think the speaker quality and volume is fine, even remarkable given the constraints of such a tiny device.

The volume on my first gen iPhone was horrible. It was so low you could hardly hear the phone, and forget about speakerphone. On the new 3G phone, volume is very loud, audible, and speakerphone is a charm to use now.
