Or is it possible to do amazing advances to it.
Or the size of the lense would be a problem?

I think that in 10 years. The iPhone will have a better camera than any DSLR out now that is under $3000
Because technology is advancing much faster. But 10 years from now the DSLR camera will be very advance but I am sure the iphone will beat any out now that is under $3000.

With innovations...10 years ago...no one would ever thought that we would have such an advance camera on a phone that can record HD
0.3 MP was the standard in 2004 with terrible video recording.

iPhone cameras will never be as good as a DSLR. A 10 year old 800-1000 dollar Nikon D70 or Canon Rebel is still light years beyond the iPhones capabilities.

It's not a technical hurtle it's one of physics. The iPhones technology will progress but to not be limited in size will be the determining factor.

Smartphones as we know them today will be irrelevant relics in another five years or less.

Something similar was said around the time when the iPhone was released, and further back when first flip phones were released, etc., etc., etc.

Not. Smart watches have been coming and going for decades. They never have and never will catch on, because they are annoying. Google glass is just too rediculous. 'Nuff said.

They are my views too, but technology moves on and the kids love this kind of stuff. For me, meh.

DSLR from 10 years ago couldn't record 1080p
Their memory and processor were limited.

There's no replacement for displacement. In this case there is no replacement for large pixels. Which is why the megapixel race is/was irrelevant.
Which is why Apple traded mpx's for larger pixels and faster lens for the 5s
