I have a two-year old latest generation iPod Touch. I would like to know if it is included in the discounted battery replacement announcement. It said in the announcement that anyone with an iPhone 6 or later is eligible for the discount. The iPod Touch was released after the iPhone 6 came out.

My iPod Touch has been very slow for the past few weeks and I think it is also subject to the throttling issue. I would like your thoughts on this and whether I have a case for it to be replaced. What should I say at the Apple store to convince them to do it? Thanks.

I still think it running slower than it should be. I have to charge it 2-3 times a day at this point. Are you sure.
If you want to check you'll have to download CPU DasherX or Geekbench. Throttling would extend the battery life if anything. iOS 11 is more demanding than 10 so slower performance and worse battery life is not surprising.

Okay, great. You are probably right...

What I meant to imply by saying that I have to charge multiple times a day is to show that the battery is very old and used, so that maybe the software was starting to throttle in order to preserve the battery / prevent shutdowns.

I noticed that my ipod touch, which came out end of 2015 lost it's ability to hold a charge dramatically, after iOS 11 was downloaded. Have mostly had the ipod touch plugged in when using since I purchased, except when I went out bicycling. So being really ignorant, my question is why the 6th generation ipod touch's battery should not be included in the $29 replacement offer? The battery life went from at least 4 hours to playing music/audiobooks, to less than half an hour when it shows low battery. Battery using iBackupBot shows currently at 100, which is less than 10% capacity.

According to what Apple has said, the iPod touch is not throttled. What you have indicated, battery times much lower after updating to iOS11 would actually suggest that the iPod is not throttled. If it were throttled, you would see similar battery times to what you had before iOS11.

The iPod touch does not have a removable battery. It is soldered onto the logic board. Apple doesn't replace the batteries. They replace the iPod with a new/refurb for $79.

Wow, I can get a new iPod for $79?

I suppose that if you have some other sort of damage, Apple could charge you the $129 out-of-warranty repair fee. If the damage is severe enough (cracked screen), they might decline to "repair" it at all.

I'm almost certain that iPod touches are not serviceable and they just replace them. I can't imagine the guy at the Apple Store taking it apart to replace a battery. It would take hours, let alone require extremely intense soldering skills.

The iPod touch is not throttled. It doesn't even support Low Power Mode.

These devices have a faulty battery though....Hope somebody sues Apple for that too but i doubt it.

And yeah...i somebody quoting me next saying his device its top notch: Good for you mate. I have a couple of ipod touch 6 and ALL have a lame battery performance LAME

I don't think there is anyone that truly believes that the iPod touch 6 has anything other than LAME battery performance. Swapping a spent iPod touch 6 battery would just get you from miserable performance to lame performance. The battery was lame from the beginning.

Honestly, I've often thought about making a case/battery holder combination for the iPod touch 5/6 on a 3D printer, but I've not pulled the trigger on the printer yet.

Anyways, not disagreeing with you. Just saying that the 6 has always had bad battery performance.

There's always one believe me...

I use an iPod Touch 6 all day every day without a problem on iOS 11.2.5 beta 3.

Now, to be fair, if one doesn't turn on WiFi, one can get pretty decent battery life. It's the WiFi, and certain apps, that drain the battery quickly!

to be fair? i don't think so the device is cr@$#$ Nobody is suing Apple only because less and less people buy an ipod touch each day.

Updated iOS on my iPod. The battery was always “bad” but iOS 11 took it to another level.

Yes, the battery certainly didn't get better with iOS11, but I'm curious as to which apps are using the most battery for you. My kids don't do facebook ... mostly youtube is the killer for their iPods.
Safari seems to be one of them.
Even though the battery was low after an hour it stayed on for a few hours more so maybe it was a glitch.
